FMP Final

Here's my final. I created a background video through filming one night out camping the middle of nowhere which I found was very beautiful. I slowed the video down and didn't use the distorted sound that was created - instead I used the music in this video (Nearly Curtains by Keaton) and added that through my iPad and earphones. The reflection from the water and rain hitting the water in the video was reflected on the floor, which I really found beautiful and good addition to the over-all video. The video didn't reflect much on the chair, but just enough to make sure it was a good addition to the over-all composition. I had the chair situated central to the video; which the video was inspired by many of the music videos that Keaton himself, creates- and many more short clips I have seen here there and everywhere ( here's an example: Keaton Henson Party Song).
I made this short video you see to capture the live act of my installation because I didn't feel that pictures would do it any justice. I loved the way the video turned out - despite it being poorly and quickly filmed for example purposes. I used 3 different App Store apps to create the over-all video; and the actual song that was playing through my headphones that went with the installation at that moment in time.
My Mac was the main power source for my installation because to keep the video up on the projector I had to use my mac. It was good because you could put the lid down and the video would still play. The format was on quicktime which has a good setting where you literally just press "repeat" and it loops the video until you switch it off - so that was very convenient and worked well. Plus, many people said that my case fit really quite well with the over-all composition. I late discovered that I'd have to leave my mac actually at college etc for my art to show - so I later swapped my mac for a college PC after putting the video on a DVD and repeating it. To make sure that my installation was safe, I included a lot of gaffer tape. I used the tape to gaffer tape the loose wires and cables to the wall to avoid any issues with people tripping, then later hid behind the black curtain which seperated my installation.

In addition to the over-all composition - I felt as those the stand was quite boring. I had a sudden realisation that I could include the post in my installation! So to bring it all together, I decided to go outside and pick some leaves and a flower; which relates highly to my nature themed work. I figured this would brighten the over-all composition up!

To create a little exhibition note - I created an illustrator doc where I used Helvetica and Helvetica Bold. I made sure that all was centra, all was spelt correct and then made the title sections Bold (Helvetica) to make it look that little more professional. In addition to this; I later printed the doc out and mounted it with spray mount making sure the page on a extractor for health and safety reasons.

This is the chair that I created for my final installation. I used acrylic paint and layered it to create the shapes and textures on my chair. I like the final outcome because, despite it not being completely accurately finished, I have been fluent with all aspects. The centre point is an unalome and the metatrones symbol. After completing all my parts, I felt a little like it wasn't exciting enough without the leaves so I used real leave on the corners to 'spice' things up a bit; plus I think it fits really pleasantly. I like the over-all finished piece because everything flows and everything just fits so well. I could have, however, tried to make it a little more accurate despite it being completely freehand to show how natural the whole piece is.

Like I just said previously, this whole nature themed installation was an aim to complete an entire project with no equipment that would take the natural flow away from things. I didn't use a ruler or measure or anything because I wanted to keep the naturality of the piece going throughout the entire thing. Here's a really lovely closeup of my leaves. They turned out really well and I feel like they painted so well ontop of the coat I put on the chair. I added a white splodge where the lightest part of my painting would typically be (the light) to show shape and form. I used a blue and yellow and layered on top and blended (and blended other sections more than others) to grasp the over-all light concept.
