Metamorphosis [find a lot of the information of the National Gallery which it was on in 2012.]
Created and Commissioned after the poem named 'Metamorphosis' therefore essentially the artists interpretation. Metamorphosis is created is based on a Roman Poets poem (which was written after 43bc) named Titian Ovid.
The poem, as a brief induction, is based on the most famous, loved stories in Greek mythology. All the stories involve Metamorphosis in them which is easily linkable throughout his paintings.

Whilst out hunting, Actaeon reached a place where people were bathing. It just so happens that Diana was there bathing, (she is the Goddess of hunting) which was not too convenient since she didn't want him to see her. Later, on the next picture, we see The Death of Actaeon.
This painting mainly follows Ovid's account in the 'Metamorphoses.' As a result of seeing her whilst bathing and surprising her, the goddess Diana transformed into Actaeon into a stag and his own hounds attacked and killed him.

It is believed that this is the painting that Titian referred to in a letter of June 1559 to
Phillip II of Spain in which he say's that he hopes to finish 2 paintings.
