All these designs are idea's that could possibly identify as the product. Although they aren't especially the designs I personally would like to design, they could inspire my final design. You can see that the top right one and the bellow one is real wood, and the top left is painted in the style. I think it would be a brilliant idea to actually do it in the actual wood (again the problem would potentially be the final product pricing) - but if worst came to worst, you'd have the possibility to create an individual illustrative piece in the style of wood.
I could paint a plain cup in a wood way, making it a very individual painted illustrative piece. Not particularly looking like wood but the way sometimes see wood. This could be very cute and any age appropriate. You may buy it even if you don't know what twin peaks is, due to it's aesthetically pleasing surface. I was going to just have holes as a quirky way to hold the product, but that would possibly cause a risk of burning your hands and would work better with an all wooden mug.
This is the style I would aim for if painting the mug. However, my mug would actually be slightly different and light brown with black wood lines for boldness; it would have a similar idea to this. I think this isn't the strongest of idea's but shows my drift.
It is hand painted/drawn and glossed over with gloss, it is a simple mug.
