Why Twin Peaks and Coffee are idea's that fit perfectly together

The number one reason for Twin Peaks and Coffee to come together is that Coffee come from Ethiopia. Coffee originates there and was founded around 1671 (well, the first time it was put in writing). Since coffee is from Ethiopia, I thought the two would go hand in hand because of the "twin peaks" stance, the mountainous land that surrounds and is throughout Ethiopia and the vast amount of referencing of coffee through out Twin Peaks.

This is Inspector Dale Cooper. Dale is the main reason for the referencing of Coffee throughout twin peaks. This is because Dale is a big coffee enthusiast (to say the least).

This is from one of the Twin Peaks Coffee Cup advertisements. I have snipped to this scale because this is the reason for the huge circle in the centre of the design for my logo. That being said, it is tempting to put the handle on and even possibly some heat coming from the cup, somehow, to make it more identifiable.

"Damn fine cup of coffee" A quote any Twin Peaks fan or watcher will know.
The Following are Previous Coffee Mug Designs
This is probably the most obvious twin peaks cup ever in existence. It isn't overly exciting, but it is quite appealing to 'fans'. However, because I am not actually aiming to put 'Twin Peaks' anywhere (since that could potentially stump sales) - This mug doesn't especially apply to what I am hoping to create.

Very simple but somehow very exciting, I would say to this mug. The simplicity is very appealing and the quote is relatively subtle since I'm sure nobody who hasn't seen or dislikes twin peaks will know the quote. The cup itself is relatively bland, but maybe that is a possible positive with the cup.

I'd prefer this as an actual logo. That being said, it is both their logo and mug design! However, I do think that it is too blatantly obvious that's twin peaks, but that's their aim so they're very okay when it comes to that. The actual design itself draws me in personally, mainly because I am very drawn to illustrative little drawings and the unique design of non-perfect manufactured designs. I think a lot of people are now drawn to this, mainly because people are striving for a lot of individuality and the aim for unique gifts as appose to high brand, expensive and clones.

Dada

DaDa, is an unplanned movement that reflects the horror happening in the First World War, 1916. Dada's main two individuals involved were Hugo Ball and Emmy Hemmings. Ball was a piano'ist and Hemmings was a gracious singer. The Cabrera Voltaire was created (a night-club-like meeting place in a pub) designed for artists and preformer's to come and do everything they would like. They got the place by promising that it would create more sales for the beer and sausage bar which the night-club was in.

1914 - 1918 and Avant Garde

The War

  • The war began in 1914 which by then Europe had literally divided to two sides.
Avant Garde

  • Avant-Garde is originally at french term meaning in English vanguard or advance guard.
  • Hugo Ball was a DaDa artist which is very key for this movement.
  • Hugo Ball created the political statement of his views; and the DaDa manifesto
  • In the early 1900's in Switzeland, the DaDa movement was created and was arose due to the WW1 happening in the time.
Cabaret Voltaire
Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven -
Elsa Von was a German born, Avant Garde, dada poet who spent a lot of time working in the united states of america. She developed provocative poetry and was a very 'out-there' character. She also trained as an actress whilst growing up, which is why she was a very contemporary poet who wasn't afraid of almost 'acting' out her poetry whilst being read. Elsa died in 1927, aged just 53 in Paris after vast exposure to gas intoxication after it was left on in her flat. The reasoning behind the gas still remains suspicious after never being cleared.

Cabaret Voltaire -
The Cabaret Voltaire was created in Zurich, Switzerland. It was founded by Hugo Ball and his companion Emmy Hennings on February 5 1916 as a cabaret for artists and for political purposes. However, the name 'dada' was founded later on and is classed as a movement. The 'dada' movement was named after placing a flat object in a dictionary, which then followed by closing their eyes and wherever their finger landed was going to be the name of this interesting movement.
The Cabaret Voltaire ranged through acts; people preforming spoken words, dance, music and poetry. The stage was often taken over by artists experimenting and typically from all sections of the Avant Garde. In July 1916, Ball read out the dada manifesto and in June had also published a diary with the same name which also featured many artists.

Recently -
In 2001/2002 a group of artists calling themselves the 'neo-dadaists', illegally entered the Cabaret Voltaire building in a bid to save the building after hearing it was to be closed down and demolished. They declared that, by saving the place, it was signal for a new wave of artists.
Shortly after and over the few months, many performances, film nights, parties and poetry readings took course but in April 2002 the police evicted the occupants.
The building has recently been re-opened holding many Cabaret Hugo Ball based programmes and exhibitions.

Packaging that didn't work

This was a simple template that I found on the internet and slightly tweaked to be my own. It really didn't work! The over-all format was not at all what I imagined. The box didn't stay closed; the peak of the roof didn't especially look like a roof at all! To conclude, this template is definitely not one to use because it isn't very sturdy and doesn't have a lot of room either.

The above and below designs - They did work! The over-all structure was very easy to cooperate with. However, the design isn't very strong. The side of the house folds out and would probably be held together with string and a button or some kind of clasp. But the base of the template would have to be a lot bigger to fit a mug in and the design would probably disproportionate. There, I am considering using elements of this design but changing some things to hopefully make it more sturdy and stay together better whilst fitting in the main products.

MORE INSPIRATION AND
IDEA CONCEPTS

This version would be ideal if you wanted something more simplistic and still keeping it slightly exciting. I could always potentially create this still into a house! Even though it isn't the idealistic house shape, I think it could quite easily passable as a house format.
Moving away from the house design, this design is simply exciting and very cute. It would definitely be something to try out because it is a professional looking design. But I don't think it would be a packaging design that would make somebody decide they want to actually re-use and save, purely because it's more of a transporting 'keep safe' design for the actual product.
This is very like the mcdonalds box. This box design is something relatively 'housing' formed; again easily manipulated to look like a house. The shape is a rectangular base with sloping sides and easily fastenable! Considering the design of the above particular design, I think people would enjoy to actually keep the box and would probably be a box you throw everything in to, to make your room a little more presentable.

Embedded designs

To add a little more professionalism, I could always engrave/embed a designs name or logo or the slogan onto the box. That would always add to the design and make it look the little more expensive, even if it actually isn't.

Box Design for the Tea bag

Sliding Box In The Original Box
This could be a box in a box and tell a little quirky story. People wouldn't want to throw it away because it's very cute and looks like theres been a lot of effort put into it. It is like a match box, which would be made out of card like the outside packaging would be also. Mine would too have funky little characters inside of it.
Here is a very cute design somebody has created for a sliding box previously. It's design gives you the format of the above Match Box design! I could potentially base my design off of the above template and make it all work so that it is very easily slidable.
Alternatively, I could put together a very exciting designed envelope and create a very cute one that would make people want to keep them. The left hand one is very simply made but makes the best impression on me, personally because it's not bland or plane.
